Boden lose to a strong Jude’s outfit but still proceed to Semi-final

Ballyboden St Endas 0-6  St Jude’s  0-16

Having qualified for the championship semi-final with their thrilling victory over Na Fianna last weekend, this game would determine which team would top the table. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, the Boden girls fought valiantly to repel the St Jude’s attack. Once again Síle Ní Coitir pulled off a fantastic save early on from close range and another St Jude’s effort towards the end of the half saw the slíotar come back off the crossbar when a goal seemed inevitable. Boden did create some scoring chances against the wind in the first half but their efforts were unsuccessful except for a great point from Katie McDonald. Losing Mairead Luttrell through injury midway through the first half was a blow, nevertheless the Boden girls held out well against the elements and an impressive St Jude’s outfit to reach half time just five points behind, 0-1 to 0-6.

With the wind at their backs in the second half it was expected that Boden would begin to reel in St Jude’s on the scoreboard. Aisling Gargan scored a fine point to reduce the deficit however the opposition responded by getting the next five points. Despite their best efforts Boden could not reduce the deficit bar some late points from Doireann Mullany, Sarah Nagle and Katie McDonald.  A goal effort from Aisling Gargan was saved well by the St Jude’s goalkeeper to rule out any late chance of a Boden comeback. Meanwhile, St Jude’s were increasing their lead picking off some fine points to run out comfortable winners in the end.

The Boden girls now have an away semi-final against the title holders St Vincent’s next Sunday at 1.30pm and we wish the team and management the very best of luck.
